If you use this, how is it for heating and air conditioning contractors?

    Depends

How big are you ? It may be much more than what you need. I use QB Pro and don't use all of it. I run up to 3 trucks and 4 men, but usually less. I think the Contractor version is $ 100 more than Pro.

We just use QB Pro. It does all we need. It would be nice if it had better Proposal/Estimate abilities.

    QB Pro - 2004

We do our checkbook, petty cash, billing, payables, payroll and all 940, 941, and W-2's with it. Data base and customer lists are excellent as well.

We do not use it for estimates.

Their paper products are extremely expensive. We use NEBS forms, checks and custom designed our invoices using the QB "forms layout designer" embedded utility.

The bad thing with QB products, they do not support software that is more than 3 years old, which of course, requires you to "upgrade" to a newer version - and locks you into features you will be unlikely to use and expensive pay-as-you-go compulsory tax tables, upgrade services and patches.

Despite the upgrade games they play, the system is better than most and has lots of options we will likely never use - but are nice to know exist - should we ever need options as yet un-needed.

I would urge you to look at all the "packages" available and not buy into features of the more powerful suites - uinless you absolutely have to have them. The basic "Pro" version we use (2004) has everything we could possibly want. We have about 700 customers, five men and five trucks on the road. If we were three times that size, we would still have more than needed systems wise.

Thanks for the great input Ken. I was thinking that I could keep track of all customers, proposal, invoices, billing etc. with this new program.

We are smaller than you are and our accountant wants us to use one form of Quick books. My thinking was the Contractor one would organize us.
