I cannot build up more than fifty pounds of pressure in my system. what can the problem be? I have well water with a x-trol water bladder tank. could it possibly be a check valve or tank?

you have to match the tank pressure with the water ..
pressure you want it to cut in at... if you dont know how then hire someone who does. oops....sorry...i was little bit grumpy that day...you can make up pressure when you have volume buh it dont work the other way around...a well man ,would explain the in's and outs of wells, and what is known as draw down and he would basically end up telling you the same thing steve has...0 -
i thought it might be something like that, but on the tank there is a chart saying 40 psi tank should be 30 psi lower than water or around those numbers.0 -
I assume you are keeping the pump on manually??? My pressure switch cuts it out at 50PSI. It will probably go higher, but why do you want to? Pump impeller could be wearing.....0 -
I want it higher because i have underground irrigation. When the pump goes on the pressure goes right up to 50psi but not higher.0 -
water pressure
You might want to look at an "Aqua Genie" from Jacuzzi, this is a constant pressure valve that should be great for an application such as yours. I have used a couple and I'm pleased with the performance. This is assuming that the other components in your water system are working properly. If you're not a pro, you should contact one. Your costs for repair and/or electric from not adjusting properly could be much higher than doing yourself.0 -
much more involved...
Steve,
This is more involved then you think.
Do you have a JET PUMP (Above Ground) or a SUBMERSIBLE PUMP (in the well)? If it is a jet pump, is it a shallow well (single pipe down the well) or a deep well (two pipes going down the well)?
Is the pump turning off at 50psi or does it keep running and never building more pressure?
With all that said, is the problem pressure or volume? You can not have both with some well systems.

Its a submersible pump. I dont have a problem with volume and shuts off 50psi.0 -
sorry i mean it keeps running and set for 70 only giving me 50psi.0 -
in your aplication....
your pump is unable to achieve the higher pressures. Most likely you will need to put a different model pump in. Goulds makes 6 different models for each hoarse power all based on GPM and PSI. You will need to know your water depth and the depth to the pump.0 -
The pump was getting to the cutoff pressure of 70psi but just recently it stopped. I tried to make the water bladder the same pressure as the pressure regulator and it didnt seem to help. Im stumped can a flow check vave be making this happen. when i shower the psi eventually goes down to 20psi and just trickles out.0 -
2 or 3 seperate problems
1st - your switch should be set with only a 20psi drop. SO in your case you shuld have 50-on/70-off. IF the pump does not turn on at 50, replace the switch and clean the pigtail and port that it screws into. If the pump is on and no water is being delivered... you could be out of water in the well.
2nd - With your system off and system pressure at ZERO your air side of the tank should have 2psi less then your turn on pressure (ie 50/70 switch setting, 48psi on air side).
3rd - A bad check valve WILL NOT CAUSE YOUR PROBLEM AS YOU HAVE DESCRIBED IT. You could have a leak in your pipe caused by the higher pressure. If the leak is between the tank and the check valve on the pump then you could lose system pressure. If your leak is between the pump and the check on the head of the pump then it will just spew water back into the well. The bottom line is that your problem is most probably down the well. Replace the pump with a proper one and replace the pipe and wire while you are at it.
When your system trickeled out did the water eventually come back?
As I said before, there are pumps made for high pressure, low volume. Pumps are made and installed based on well recover and system demand. You should have a well pump professional look at the systemand determine where your problem is.

Pumps
If the water runs to a trickle and then starts again you have to much air in the tank and its fooling the switch. EJW0
