Buderus Condensing Boiler

What is the general consense about the GB142 Condensing Boiler that Buderus just released to compete with the Munchkin here in the U.S.. I just went to a class about it to learn how to install and troubleshoot it.

My take on it is that they instructor is a saleman. Yes it is a very nice boiler that can be taken apart with just a screwdriver but to acheive the highest effeciencys you can only have one zone in the house. you can hook up multiple zones using regular T-Stats and Zone Valves but with out the RC10 room controller the boiler doesn't modulate down to low fire automatically and you can only have 1 of them set in the coldest room in the house. I just don't like the advertising of it being 97-98% efficient but that is only under ideal conditions.

But if you have a single story house with only 1 zone this boiler is great. The place that we went to to see it run had one zone and to maintain room temp the boiler downfired itself so that the supply was only 100 degrees with the return at about 78 degrees and that was all that was needed to maintain heat in there. The Room controller learns the heating charactoristics of your house and modulates the boilers firing rate to match.

Again real simple to work on and convert. to convert you need to take 1 screw all the way out and loosen 2 others and the gas valve is out in your hands. It automatically sets the air for you for ideal flame. You can do a complete boiler cleaning in 1/2 hr and no tools whatsoever are needed to clean the boiler. Everything is clipped together.

Just my general observations so far.
