Wiring for an American Standard Air Handler
Mike Foley
Member Posts: 1
Has sny one had any luck wiring the low voltage controls for an American Standard, Variable Speed air handler.(model TWE031E-SF-1D) This one is set up for a/c and heating from a zone of the boiler(Hydro-air). The paperwork that came with the unit shows only wiring diagrams for connection to a heat pump. I cant seem to get the fan to operate ni the heating mode. Any info at all would be of great help.

AmStd
I have used the variable speed Am. Std. air handlers many times for my hydro-air systems. I typically use a Taco HAFC101 fan coil control to simplify the wiring. On a call for heat from the thermostat, an integral relay energizes the fan, the boiler and the circultor (or zone valve). It also isolates the thermostat from the load. If you try to energize the fan "g" directly from the thermostat, you can create a backfeed on "y", bringing on the compressor (depending on the thermostat used). The isolating relay in the Taco control prevents this. Good luck! -DF

All you need
is a stat that will energize that g terminal on heat as well
as cool. That what a heatpump stat does.
Or you can revert back to the old way and wire it in with a
aquastat thru the g terminal on the low voltage board.
