oil burner problem

i have been trying to find why a ecoflam minor 8 oil burner is malfunctioning. the difficulty is the burner runs perfectly 95% of the time. i was at this client's residence five time for a total of four hours before the buner actually malfunctioned. the problem is the burner does not ignite smoothly and it will then sputter and shut off. i wait and press the reset button and it will ignite and run smoothly for hours. i checked the fuel pressure on the fuel pump and the pressure does not fluctuate when the burner is running. i cleaned all filters and changed the nozzle. i changed the coupling for the fuel pump and changed the flexible hoses connecting to the fuel pump. any suggestions? thankyou

Did You......
Did you put a vacuum gauge on the supply pipe to the burner? What did you have for a vacuum reading?0 -
If the vacuum checks OK as Bill suggested
I'd install a delayed oil valve. This keeps oil from reaching the nozzle until the pump and fan are up to speed and air is moving thru the firing zone. These units give good, clean, consistent starts especially on newer boilers with smaller firing zones.

Hi Doug,
just one question. Where are you located? The EcoFlam is not available in the US. Haven't heard that name since my last trip to Italy.0 -
I say oil pump0 -
al i think you are probably right....
sad to say these new style pumps are a veritable POS...normally id say that a delayed oil valve would help,as would a quick check of the nozzel holder. simply lash up a pressure gauge to the nozzel holder....i have seen hairline cracks cause that ...it is very difficult to see it some times as the nozzel holder so seldom is cracked and also because the malfunction isnt something that jumps right out at you...0
