Must the outlet be above the connection to the drier?

I sure hope not
I have been in a jillion crawlspaces where the dryer vents are running DOWN from the upstairs, through the crawl and out the side of the building. Actually, now that I mention it, I hope maybe it IS code. It will spawn a whole new business here. I'd retire by years end.0 -
I too
dont believe it matters. Its a force system. However what does
matter is how long the run is,and how smooth the surface of
the distribution system is.
I've gone to home where they have 75 feet or better in them
not to mention adding for all the turns in such.you wont believe how pack with lint they are.
The shorter,the strighter,and the smoother the surface,will
keep you from replacing limits and elements.
Not to mention helping to shorten the time on when cloths
become dry.
After three kids and many dryer,I feel like a expert on this subject.
I wonder Mike, why you ask,are you tired of hearing the wife
say its taking two cycle to get the cloth dry?

No.
But what you want to do,is get the vent pipe as smooth and
as stright and under fifty feet.includes ellbows.
I have seen plenty ran over 100 feet counting elbows, and the
customer wonder why elements and limits or burning out.
Also it take two or more cycle to get the cloth dry.
Then couple it with lint catching on the crimps of the pipe because the crimp is not going with airflow.
But heck its just a dryer vent no big deal right?
Thanks for asking Mike,I'm a self proclaim expert when it
come to cloth dryer, after three boys and a wife who speaks
up when the cloth are not dry on the first cycle, you bet I
have lots of experience with dryers.LOL.

50 feet
is really pushing it with any dryer. Just finished installing 12 units for a condo complex. THe mfg info stated max static to be .15"WC with 1 elbow, not including the elbow usually required at the outlet. We ended up installing booster fans on all but the 2 shortest runs. 15' of vertical 4" pipe and 2 elbows = .27"WC static.0
