To Larry Weingarten

Ever a chance of an IR image of your solar energized, gravity powered, copper-fin-in-mud over SIP walls?

p.s. Am still trying regarding output from standing iron rads at low temps.

    Hmmmm....

I'll need to find someone who has an IR camera in the Monterey area. I can tell you just from putting a hand over the tubes that they are only warm to the touch for about two (of their eight) feet, even on relatively cold days. I do seem to be able to keep the house at 70* with 80* water. Suspect I oversized the emitter a LOT! Thanks for asking.

Hello Larry ..Oversizing the emmiters a shade isnt all bad ...

So you a green builder very cool. it takes dedication and a profound love of mathmatics ..One of my friends is helping do the math kinda deal on some underground in nevada or arizona i think he was in his late 40's before he even recognized the beauty in anything other than matamatical equasions :))) if he ever catches a skirt and builds a home ...:)) it will probably supply energy 24-7...

    Oversized?

Isn't that 80° supply on a relatively cold day great when you're counting on the sun for heat? Seems to me that your solar collection can be used quite efficiently.

What's really great to me is that you can get circulation with such a low differential in temperature. Oh wait--is it the temp in the solar collector and/or tank that matters or the temp in the supply system????

    to clarify..

There is a 1000 gallon non-pressurized PEX tank. In the bottom of it is a copper coil hooked up to solar collectors. (the solar side is filled with a 50/50 mix of vodka and water) In the top is a coil hooked up to the radiant system. So, the heating is indirect. But the house heats to 70* with 80* water coming from the radiant coil in the tank. Hope that is clearer. By the bye, I've learned the PG&E Energy Center in San Francisco loans out tools like IR cameras. Wish they were 120 miles closer! Weezbo, I feel much more like a slow builder than a green one.;~)
