Calculating EDR

I have many radiators for which there is no information on EDR. These are installed in cement plenums where cold air drops down and heat causes the air to rise through floor registers. Strangely enough, the other exposed radiators (exposed to room air) all have EDR numbers on the old drawings, but these do not.

How can I calculate the EDR? Based on dimensions, material type, do I need inside diameters, what about connected steam and condensate piping sizes?

Can you access the plenums to see what's inside? Likely one of the "school pin" or similar radiators (they look like boiler sections). EDR ratings are available. Need length, width, depth & number of sections. (Photo nice to identify the exact type.)

    Calc EDR

Yes - they are very archaic looking, in that they don't appear to have a very finished look to them, and I will try to get some pictures. Access is very limited but is available.

Another thing that REALLY matters is the source of incoming air.

Systems of that age usually had fresh air input--either completely from the outdoors or a mix of indoor and outdoor air. Sometimes the outdoor air was first tempered with additional heating sections--sometimes not. Perhaps the fresh air feature has been disabled, perhaps not.

It makes a BIG difference in boiler sizing and output when you assume outdoor air at 0 degrees or below vs. indoor air at 60 degrees or so.
