four mounties slain
I have just finished reading the awful news regarding the four police officers that were killed in the line of duty. In my considered opinion, being a police officer has to be one of the most emotionally brutal ways to make a living. The psychopath responsible for this carnage has a long history of emotional problems and scrapes with the law. I was interested in listening to his father's very rapid distancing footwork away from his son. He remarked the boy began to have emotional distress after the breakdown of thier marriage. I know everyone is going to say the old man is eighty and well ,he's old ,so he can not be held responsible for his son anymore. I could not disagree more. In the years the child was being nutured, taught moral values, and his place as an individual in society where were his parents? This person did not suddenly wake up and become a sociopath: he had a long incubation period and that started in childhood. Now, four young men are dead ;in all likelyhood, still in their twenties and the criminal is also dead. No one won in this horrible incident, this person should have been seen for what he was long before this kind of hatred for society had taken root. Policemen are dealing with the outcome of parents, caregivers, doctors , social workers failures. If we had a better idea on how to treat people in emotional crisis: this kind of brutality would be greatly lessened. What I do not understand ,from the RCMP point of view is: this person was known to be a violent police hater, why did they not send out the correct people to take this man in.This was and is a situation for the SWAT team, not a bunch of young men still learning their job. Make no mistake ,it takes years to become a really good police person and it is not learned by trial and error. If the trial and error method is used, you have four young men gone and one dead that should have been in an institution capeble of helping him: or in the event, that he could not be helped, keeping him away from society. My heart goes out for all the poor souls caught up in this mess, may Heaven be all it should be for you. Take care and be safe.
This is a perfect example of why Dan says " Hug your kids" people who feel like they are wanted and belong, seldom run afoul of the law.

I agree, the Cops have a very difficult job to do
In many cases their hands are tied even when it comes to protecting their own lives. Here in NYC, there are several cases a year where cops go on trial for killing a perp who was about to kill them. Granted, in some isolated cases, the cops abuse their power, but in the vast majority, they are just doing their job. Criminals have more rights than the cops and law-abiding civilians....the ACLU is always at the ready, to offer free counsel. God Bless the Mounties and their families. At least the miscreant is dead..taxpapyers won't have to pay for his 65k incarceration for the next 30 years. Mad Dog

MD you are
absolutely correct. Had this bum lived some slime ball defense attorney would have dragged this mess through the courts for years, further inflicting pain on their "brothers" and families. There is something seriously wrong with the "justice!?" system on both sides of the border.0 -
4 dead Mounties
This one hit me hard. Many of you south of us in Canada,do not know too much about our Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They are the most well trained and down to earth people you'll meet. Many years ago when I was in my younger days,I hitched hike across Canada and the US. I n Canada ,on stormy days, these Mounties would actually stop to see if I was alright;even gave me a lift to the nearest town. That's why this situation that has happened here is so hard to take. The Mounties really want to make a safe place so all can enjoy a good life. My heart really goes out for these families. One of the 4 Mounties was only in his second week of duties. For the life of me I will never understand why these things happen. May God bless you!0 -
I wouldn't say that Terry
Aside from alot of these dopey genXers, The RCMP are a revered and respected paramiltary/police unit.. When I was kid, I really wanted a toy "mountie" on his horse that I saw somewhere but the folks didn't know where to get one. Nope, I'd say the Mounties are just as well regarded as say our own Texas Rangers. In any case, it is a terrible tragedy. I am NOT a fan of Martha Stewart, and what she did was wrong, but when a person like her is incarcerated and put under house arrest...and at the same time violent drug dealers and child molesters with long rap sheets are free to roam and destroy........there is something desperately wrong with "the system." Its up to us to elect people who will address penal parity . Mad Dog
