Hot water in house from steam system. options?

Hi again all,
My house has a one-pipe steam system.
The hot water in the house comes from this system too, which makes for nice very hot water.
1. Is this more expensive than a traditional gas water heater? Does it put load on the system in the summer?
2. I have some kids and I'm afraid of burns from this water. Any options?
thanks so much.

steam hot water
Assuming you have a fairly new steam boiler with a tankless coil, you are more efficient than an electric tank. It doesn't hurt the boiler to run in the summer months, because the boiler stays warm and is not subject to leaking from contraction or the problems associated with a boiler that needs to be tuned just sitting there all summer.
If your afraid of burns from the water it is too hot!!!! Get a pro in there to install the proper tempering mixing valve and you should be OK.
