The cost of a child

I just became a new "Grandpa" on 22-Jan-05. It is fabulous
and I wanted to share a nice document with you that explains the cost of a child.
The US government recently calculated the cost of raising a child from birth to eighteen and came up with $160140.00 US for a middle income family.
What do get for your $160140.00?
-Naming rights. First,middle and last.
-Glimpses of God everyday.
-Giggles under the covers every night.
-More love than your heart can hold.
-Butterfly kisses and Velcro hugs.
-Endless wonder over rocks, ants, clouds and warm cookies.
-A hand to hold, usually covered with jam.
-A partner for blowing bubbles, flying kites, building sand castles and skipping down the sidewalk in the pouring rain.
-Someone to laugh yourself silly with no matter what the boss said or how your stocks performed that day.
-You never have to grow up.
-You get to fingerpaint, carve pumpkins, play hide and seek, catch lightning bugs and never stop believing in Santa Claus.
-You get to frame rainbows, hearts and flowers under refrigerator magnets and collect spray-painted noodle wreaths for Christmas, hand prints set in clay for Mother's Day and cards with backward letters for Father's Day.
-You get to be a hero just for retrieving a Frisbee off the garage roof, taking the training wheels off the bike, removing a sliver, filling the wading pool, coaxing a wad of gum out of bangs and coaching a baseball team that never wins but always gets treated to ice cream regardless.
-You get a front row seat to history to witness the first step, first word, first bra, first date, first time behind the wheel.
-You get to be immortal. You get another branch added to your family tree, and if your lucky,a long list of limbs in your obituary called grandchildren.
-You get an education in psychology, nursing, criminal justice, communications and human sexuality no college can match.
-In the eyes of a child, you rank right up there with God.
-You have the power to heal a boo-boo,scare away monsters under the bed, patch a broken heart, police a slumber party, ground them forever and love them without limits,so one day they will, like you, love without counting the cost.
Regards.....

Nice post
A nice way to end the day, reading that fine post!! Oddly enough, today I heard on the radio the money spent on a pet can amount to some $7000.00 Just like the money "spent" to raise a child, it seems like a bargain to me. Congratulations on being a new grandfather.

A really nice post
I guess I'll be in the "poor" house and turn wrenches till my dying day, but that's fine with me. The wife is expecting #3 in 3 months. Hallelujah! Mad Dog

Congrat's Mad Dog....
All the best to you and your wife. I have 3 daughters, just like Dan. Christie is married, with the new baby "Victoria", Angela is getting married on 14-May-05,and
Jenna is just finishing her 2nd year of university. So,as you can see, I'm also working on "Freedom 85", but I wouldn't change it for the world.0 -
Thanks to everyone for the nice comments....
It is one of life's greatest blessings to become a grandparent. It is hard to believe how much joy, one little baby can bring into your life....Now, if Grandma would just give me the baby for awhile....(There's a fight on to see whose going to hold her next.)0 -
Thanks Mike.
What a lovely post, I'll keep it for ever.
Kids are a blessing.
Regards.

That was a wonderfull post. My youngest is going through a stage were he wants to do what he wants to do. Thats bring the hammer down on him, which is tough. At the same time, I can appreicate his independance. He reminds me of another young boy about 43 years ago

I wish I could claim credit...
for that bumpersticker that says "If I had known Grandchildren were so much fun, I would have had them FIRST!" Little guy just turned 4, little girl 17 months. How's that song go? "Keeps you runnin', they keep you runnin'!" Where's my Geritol?0
