Boiler Maintenance Timing

Does the efficiency performance degrade near the end of the boiler maintenance schedule. Is it better to have the boiler maintenance done just before the heating season?
Mine use to be then but my oil company moved it out to when it is less busy for them (April) and I am concerned if the furnace is less efficient in December through March than just after the maintenance. Or does it not matter.

there is a decrease
in reality they come in april when it is slow for them, not to piss anyone off. I do my own service/cleaning, but my honest resoning is around september. I forgot the fact a teacher told me but it was like 1/4" of soot in the boiler is equal to 1" of fibergalss insulation, which means that you lose that much more heat since the soot insulates the cast iron from the heat. As far as efficiency, I am sure its affected, how much I can not say honestly, But i have always felt its best to do it before the season. but everyone is different, i am curious to what others on here will say0 -
Gas Boiler Maintenance
What about those? I have a new gas boiler installed in Oct 04. New liner etc. Ay cleaning to be done yearly on teh gas boiler vs the oil boilers?

any new equipment
gas or oil should run clean, gas is usually very clean but the newer oil equipment should run about as clean if set up right. Some in the trade have a mental block that oil is sooty and they don't even set for 0 smoke.
If your unit is cleaned in April it will only run for H/W over the summer and should still be clean and ready to go in the fall0
