Burnham Steamer

Options
Hey guys
Bidding a job at a Senior Citizens center. Come up with 283,000 Btu's needed after using a 1.5 pick up factor. Mains are not insulated. Looking in our Burnham book and thining of using the Independence Boiler. Going by the DOE per Dans book...I come up with a IN11. Any experience with these? Howd you like them?
Thanks

    Nice Boiler

make sure it's piped correctly, as you would for any boiler. A drop header is highly recommended, and Burnham includes this in their literature.

    Thanks Steamhead

We may switch to a Peerless 64-08. Only because the supply house I have to deal with for the Burnham does not help me much because we don't buy much there. I have not done a large Peerless gas steamer but plenty of oil ones.
    Thanks again

I'm sorry to hear that one of our distributors is not handling your needs as desired. If you wish, I'd be more than glad to call them to try and improve your relationship with them. Just e-mail me with their name and location. It shouldn't matter how much you buy from them. It should matter that they are servicing your needs so that in the future you may buy more from them! I'd be glad to help!

    ok

    Glen
I don't know how to figure out your e-mail from this site. But the problem started with a delivery and a strange driver they had. I got upset, called the salesman and gave him a little stuff. Since then relations have been strained. The other problem is that they do not have a close store and everything has to be delivered. So I don't know if it is worth causing any waves over. We do like the Burnham product.
    Thanks

Just be careful with this. We all would recomend a drop header and Burnham has great pictures of this, BUT as Ron Jr. found out a couple weeks ago Peerless does not. If your inspector is picky and wants to see Peerless' piping diagram for this, they don't have it. Good Luck

p.s. Notice WHO IS trying to help you on this, I would

    The In 11 is excellent

also consider the 506B series. They have less sections, and are esier to handle and assemble. We recently did a boiler in a a deep (8 foot) pit witha 24 wide doorway. WE woudlve died trying to lower an IN 11 or 12 down there. We went with that boiler and it worked out well. It was an Old Marsh Vapor system - very happy with it. As the other dude said....Glenn and Burnham are here to help - always. Mad Dog

I am with you. Did the inspector fail it? Didnt Peerless say it was acceptable? I have spoken to our rep for Peerless and they have never said you couldnt do it. If it is listed in literature in general...Dans book, IBR book, etc. then I dont see why he would not pass. Also I know Glen is very helpful and appreciate that. But until I work out this problem (or at least a problem according to me) with the supply house I would deal with for Burnham I am a little stuck. I do like the Peerless and the supplier I get them from very much. I am going to call our rep tomarrow and see if they would fax me a ok for the drop header. I didnt see the outcome of Ron jr problem.

    Peerless' response

I don't know what the outcome was yet, I do know that they don't come here to support their product(maybe they didn't get the Blog). I really like their products but their lack of support is very noticable. I personally called them on Ron's behalf and was told that they recieved his e-mail and were working on it. I called back after about a week and they said the rep was taking care of it. As of right now, they haven't come here, done anything on this at their tech line or(as far as I know) responded to Ron's e-mail. I would think that to at least save face - and maybe promote their pinnacle against that other boiler that is discussed so frequently here, they would get on the ball. Hopefully Ron will join in and let us know where he stands.
  • So far , no word

to me , at least . My supervisor has been in contact with our local rep , not sure if he got word back yet . I'll ask him tomorrow .

I am very suprised that Peerless does not have a presence here on The Wall . It's a very common boiler to see on Long Island . I have a WBV3 in my own home . I hope they will come around to the idea of representing their products here . People like Glenn Stanton , Noel Murdough , Joe Matiello , Tim Doran , Chuck Shaw , and many others - prove that having a web presence is a VERY VALUABLE ASSET to their companies .

Thanks for going the extra mile for me Todd , I owe you one .

    I try to keep quiet

Quiet about this stuff, at least.

I try to do business with people that want to help me. The people that want to help me are here on the Wall.

If a manufacturer wants my business, they'll be here.

    'nuff said.....

    I remember one case

where a manufacturer was having problems with one of their boilers and we weren't getting any response here, so someone suggested we just stop using their stuff. That got their attention!
