Ignitor temperature test

Hey, got to thinking outside the box today. I have been collecting problem ignitors (those causing call backs that
had been eventually pulled). I set a few up on a bench at
the shop. Fired them up with spark jumping across springs/
clips and measured the temperature of the spark using a
standard thermometer from the Bach kit knowing that it's
heat that ignites the oil vapor. Took a good ignitor out of
the box, it measured around 725 deg F right in the arc. Had
2 others that were arcing nicely but gave us problems. One
had a temp of 420, the other around 500.

Hmmmm, since we need 600-700 deg f for ignition of #2 fuel, vapor, makes me wonder.

    Wonderful!

Wish I had thought of that, FACT!

Marty you finally may have found a test for these ignitors and you're right on the other point too, the fire pint for 32 is 685F, nice goin!

Might be time for all of us to but infrared thermometers!
