Comfortech Road Show (PAH)

I came up through the trades as a plumber first and foremost. Hence the nickname PAH. I was fortunate to apprentice at the business I now own as we were always involved in hydronics and had installed radiant heating systems (both copper and black iron) in the 1940's. Although they were prior to my time, I "grew up" maintaining them and many of them are quietly keeping folks warm this cold morning. Primarily the black iron systems remain. Imagine the concern of burying hundreds of threaded joints in concrete!

Plumbers have taken it on the chin (both here & elsewhere) for failure to get educated regarding their radiant installations and, I'll freely confess, it pains me to see an entire class painted with a broad brush distaining their work. In the same breath, it bothers me that plumbing contractors, who ought to know better, think there's nothing to learn when moving into radiant applications. I know because that was me and I paid dearly for my early mistakes. At that time, I had two choices: get out of the radiant field; or learn all I could and build up that side of our business. There was no "Wall" at the time or training programs from which to garner sage advice (that I could find out about). But there were books both old and new and I devoured each one I could find. I have one engineer's book that details a forced hot air radiant system and how to construct a home to incorporate the system. Pretty funny stuff to contemplate, but their information regarding MRT is dead-on and they speak about the four ways our bodies lose heat using the same percentages we hear about today. Right idea, great and accurate information - wrong heat delivery method!

This year I was asked to join the Comfortech Roadshow to share my experiences with plumbing contractors. Although this means I'll be away from my business while work piles up awaiting my return(G), I jumped at the opportunity.

Limited room, so if you're interested - get on board early and I look forward to seeing you there. I'm planning on learning at each stop along the way too.
