New Steam System, gunk in glass tube

Member Posts: 5
My new system is operating great, the glass tube was clean for the first 5 to 10 days, then it became cloudy, has some solid pieces floating and there is a redish foam, residue on the top. My understanding is skimming did occur. Suggestions on what may be needed, if anything

How?, do you know the skimming was done? Read the manufacturers installation instructions that is left with your new steam boiler. In there you will find the correct way to skim. Many boilers have dedicated skim tappings, why not look and see if there was any evidence of plug removal. It could be the system is real dirty, it wasn't flushed or it wasn't skimmed enough. Keep skimming!

Its not unnormal for that to occur. I would call back the installer and ask him to skim it again. Does the boiler have an ectronic low water cuttoff or the type you can drain? If it has the drain type you could and should be flushing that.0
