Honeywell/Sparco Mixing Valve Problem

Mike J.

I have a Honeywell/Sparco mixing valve that is rated for 110F-145F and the highest temperature it will reach is around 115F. I have adjusted it all the way to 145F and it won't rise. The temperature coming in is the boiler temperature of 180F.

    Which model do you have?

Regardless, it is recommended that the outlet temp be a max of 110 degrees to prevent scalding, especially b the elderly and small children. The temperature can be regulated from 80-120 degrees. You can adjust it by letting the water run for 3 minutes to stablize the temperature, then loosen the phllips screw in the center of the grey knob, and lift the knob until the bottom disengages from the brass hex. Adjust manually using an accurate thermometer in the water steam. Once the desired temp is reached, push the knob back down and tighten the screw.

    Model

    It is an AM100-US.
I need to raise the temperature because the dishwasher optimum temperature is 145F.
I am not so much concerned about the temperature settings as much as the temperature seems to swing greatly and won't change from say 80F with hot water running. If the unit needed to be cleaned internally would this hot water temperature to be low?

    Here's a thought...

Direct-pipe the dishwasher to the water heater, put the mix valve on the sink/shower lines. Besides labor, all you'll need is copper & a couple fittings. Then, you can set your water heater at a higher temp, sanitize your dishes, and let the mixing valve help protect your family from scalding. The interior of the mixer is coated with teflon, so unless you have some old relic in really bad water, minerals shouldn't be a problem.

    Mike, follow Bills advise.

or let me second that course of action. remove the screw , take the head off reposition it and open the valve further.....solution #1 put the screw back in it and set the adjustment to where your reading water temps in the range you want at the dishwasher. solution #2 is really good also. point of use application .only is is if you have a recirc line on the domestic hot water ...er then things could be a little bit different.

    It wouldn't hurt

to disassemble and clean out. It is possible to have crud, or a solder ball preventing the spool from moving the entire range? Scale on the parts can cause this also. The new coated body and plastic spools are much better than the old brass and chrome versions.

I like Bills idea about the piping if you can get to it. Often times the dishwasher feeds from the same pipe as the kitchen sink, however.
