    Different brands or

different types? It can be hard to determine if a system has PG or EG. Larger commercial systems are often EG.

I did ask a Dow engineer about blending various types ie DowFrost pg and DowTherm eg. He said you would need to send a sample to the lab to accuratly determine if you have pg or eg, but the two types (pg and eg)can mix without a problem.

The bigger issue is the toxicity when the pg and eg are mixed.

One carbon is all that seperates pg from eg. Ethylene, with one less carbon, actually biodegrades quicker in the enviroment, which is why it is generally sprayed on airplanes, and the cost difference :)

Now mixing from brand to brand regardless of the type gets more complicated and depends on how they were inhibited, and with what. Generally all the hydronic inhibited glycols be they pg or eg, should blend together without a problem. But if you don't know what you are dealing with??

Always check the ph of the current fluid. If it is way out of ph range, usually a lower ph, adding new glycol to it will compromise the inhibitor package in the new added fluid.

Below 7 ph most manufactures suggest dumping and starting over with fresh.
