VHE venting

I was called out on Friday night/Sat morning to repair a weil mclain gas boiler M# VHE-5 133K CP# 10083908. The HSI had failed. I thought these boilers were IID, I guess there was conversion kit. What really perplexed me was that it was common vented into a lined masonry chimney with a 40k water heater, with 3" galvanized smoke pipe. Every seam was rusted and corroded. The placard on the boiler specified 3" stainless. I thought this boiler HAD to direct vented. Any body have experience with this quy? The W=M web site does not have any info. Its like this boiler model never existed. Your time and help are greatly appreciated.

you are correct, the VHE must be vented w/al29 4c s.s.
vent material. I'am pretty sure there is info on weil
web site. I'll look @ my office monday. if I can find I'll
post.

Yup, that's the correct info: direct vented with 3" SS flue piping.
