White rodgers Zone valve #1361-102 ???

the very same problem can arise with TACO zone valves on a CGA boiler. The way I have wired them seems to work fine here it is:

From the "C" terminal on CGA go to #1 on ZV

From the "R" terminal go to #2 (Note #2 terminal is common to #5 internally on some WR ZV's you have two #2 it is still internal)

Wire thermostat to #4 and #5 (or #2 depending on how your vale is numbered)

Terminal #3 on ZV to terminal "G" on CGA control.

What is different here is normally "R" goes to # 1 and "C" goes to #2 we are just switching them.

    White rodgers Zone valve #1361-102 (Wiring problems)

    Hey Everyone, I have installed 3-White Rodgers #1361-102 Zone valves. I have wired and re-wired them twice. I have removed all 1/4" spade terminals thinking perhaps improper connection @ some of the terminals. Existing is also 3-Honey well #T8112d Digital Prog. thermostat's. Each zone valve opens and closes upon raising and lowering the t-stats. Problem is that I can not get power @ terminal # 3 to supply power to relay of Weil McLain boiler Model #CGA-4. I realize the end switch is terminal #2 & 3, but in my paticular application according to the spec. sheet it suggest that I use Terminal #1 & 3. I have been doing this kind of work for a long time. I am not sure as to what I am over looking. Any ideas to help stop this insanity would surely help me to have a better day.

    Is the boiler looking for 24 volts or a end switch to bring it on? terminal 2 to 3 should work as a end switch, if the boiler control has dry contacts to operate. terminals 1 and 3 should supply 24 volts, on a heat call. are you using a isolation relay, terminals 1 and 2 would prove if the relay is working?

    I have just been through this problem. terminal 3 becoms energised when the zone valve opens. Terminal 1 is the other side of the transformer, so 1 and 3 will give you 24 volts when the zone valve opens. I had to use an isolation relay between the zone valve and the boiler control. Then my T8600 programable thermostat would open the zone valve on a call for heat and imidiatly close it again. With info from Honeywell and my supplier, I had to install isolation relays between the thermostat and the zone valves, now it works. seems the thermostat couldn't handle the load of the zone valve and the isolation relay.

    zone valves? I can tell you that I do not think you need the isolation relay on both sides if it is wired correctly. You may need it between the "power stealing" thernmostat and zone valve but not on the other side.

    I may be wrong but I have run in to this problem on numerous occasions and have been able to get away with only one isolation relay. But hey if it works so be it.

    The reason for the isolation relay between the Zone valve and the boiler is that the end switch ( or aug switch as WR calls it ) is energised and might conflict with the TT conections on the boiler control which are also energised but by a different transformer. There is a way to do it but I didn't dare take a chance on ruining a transformer.
