thermastat or aquastat?

I'm having trouble, we changed out the old thermostat because the paper board w/temp was moving. Since then, when the house is at temp. set at 68. When going to bed at night, by the time morning comes, the thermostat reads 60 deg or below and the heat still did not kick on. Therefore, when waking up we turn it up past 68 to turn it on and then turn it back to 68 to assure it will go off. After that, we discovered that by just bumping the wall or thermostat it kicks on. Is the aquastat working? We've since installed 2 thermostats and they all do the same thing. We changed the Honewell Triple aquastat l8124A,c w/a used aquastat (same #) and still continue to have the problem. It seems to kick on and off, not according to the temp its set at. Today when we manually kicked it on and it was set at 66 it continued to heat the house to 74 deg. then we manually shut it off. This is an EFM hot water boiler with baseboard heat. Temp set on water is low 160 high 180. The indicator on the thermostat is set at .3 and has been changed to .2, etc. many different times, and does not make one bit of difference. The point is that the temp should not go below 60 when its set at 68. And when it finally kicks on it should not kick off at 70 or above??!! that is if it kicks on at all ??!! Desperate for an answer right away. Thanks!

    Howdy Chaz.

Is there a possibility that your t stat is not matched properly ? what i think you are getting , and i maybe wrong ,(i have been wrong alot lately :) )it may be there are two things happening as it were causing this...one is the heat anticipator and the other sounds like there is a faulty connection of the t stat to the wall plate. its your turn. william

    thermo

I feel the problem is also in the thermostat. Do you also control ac from the thermostat? Its acting like a bad switch in the thermos base or bad conection......

just a question....but is your thermostat mechanical or digital??? t-87??? sounds to me like the subbase isn't level........you can put all the t-87's on you want and they will do the same thing if you install them all on the same crooked subbase...that and make sure the anticipator is set right

    Where?

I would also be curious as to whereabouts of your thermostat and whether or not some environmental factor like a stove, direct sunlight or something else is playing havoc on its ability to function properly?

    thermostat problem

I would also check the ohms reading on the thermostat wiring. I would disconnect the tt wire from your circ relay control, disconnect the TT from the wall then twisting the pair together (at one end or the other) and check with audible ohms meter. And start wiggling....HAHa.. I have found two bad tt wires this winter. One was over heating and the other one was not heating...Along with the leveled base plate, Proper Thermostat for application, heat anticapator setting location of TT.
