Oil in boiler water

I tried tapping into a dry return to vent away from the elbow. I did not tap a very good hole (leaked) so I put a saddle clamp over the hole. In trying to tap the hole, I was lubricating the bit. I notice when I drew some water off recently that there is oil in the boiler water. Should I add some tsp and let it cook for awhile, or should I just skim. Vents have been noisier lateley and repitched main is starting to hammer- again. I figure this oil is carrying over into the mains. ed

oil and boiler water don't mix
Hi Ed,
Yes, you want to get that oil out of your boiler water. It can cause plenty of problems, some that you mention.
You can skim to remove the oil, or use a chemical treatment that is specific to the problem. TSP can be more of a problem than a solution. Some brand names of cleaners; Squick or One Hour Cleaner. They both are designed to get the oil out.
