We have been installing system 2000 hot water boilers for several years. our customers are very pleased with thier efficiency, quiet operations and domestic hot water supply. our techs love them. NO SOOT.. The thing of it is, We are lone wolves in this part of N.J. ..Most of the talk out hear is that System 2000 boilers are not worth two cents... In My opinion, I think that thier opinion is based on .. CHANGE.. and are not willing to do so. Just looking for some feed back on the EK-1.

Nothing unusual about resistance to change!

From my research they seem to be efficient, reliable oil-fired boilers able to challenge the likes of Buderus. Of course the flat-plate HXs for DHW are always prone to water quality problems...

With natural gas, they seem to lag well behind the condensing/modulating models.

    previous company

The previous company I worked for sold them like hot cakes. They were a nice system to work for, easy to maintain and simple to trouble shoot. They were also incredibly quiet. The company I work for now has a difficult time selling them due to the cost. I have found that alot of people have a hard time trouble shooting them and generaly blame every problem on the control.

    EK

We are in NJ also we service Monmouth and Ocean counties. We are on the verge of offering nothing but the EK's. I love the product. Most people are scared of what they dont understand. Lots still Blueray shy. Alot of the oil industry jumped on board with those and all got burnt. But to me the EK has proved itself. Worked on one the other day..installed in 1986. I could see obvious improvements that have been made but that aside..it looked and ran like new. How many improvements have we seen on a cast wet base boiler with a domestic coil?

    EK-1

In response to the brazed plate heat exchanger having difficulties with water quality, doesent every type of heat exchanger, heating element, coil, indirect water heaters, faucets, toilet fill valves and all other plumbing fixtures have problems with water quality ? It is a fact that the brazed plate will attract mineral diposits and render itself useless much quicker than a tankless coil. Energy Kinetcs offers a product distributed by Cuno water treatment co. that will keep that brazed plate free from mineral diposits, there is also a product called HYDROBLEND that we use to protect our heat exchangers, coils etc. But these products come only second to an ion exchange water softener. If your going to offer a high end, top of the line heating system, why not to improve thier water quality and quality of life..the whole package.

    But for less money

Couldn't you get a low mass steel boiler like a Laars Max, Burnham LE, or a CI Crown Freeport, A great indirect like a Triangle Tube and a Tekmar 260 and make a better package?

    For less money ?

I do like the Crown Freeport,I also like the Dynatherm steel tube scotch marine style boilers. And for the money, the Vaughn, concrete lined indirect is by far the best on the market. But pound for pound the EK1 is still less, as a complete package

    EK

I service 2 EK'1's that were installed in the late 80's. Never a problem with anything. Just the usual stuff. Water quality must be addressed with any type of plumbing equipment.

    Have to agree with

what has been said. I was lucky enough to see these when they first came out. The owner came to our co. with one on a trailer and gave us a class in the early 80's. They do back the product up and it is a great product. What used to be a problem was the expanding/contracting of the steel core, because it runs fro room temp and up and back again on each cycle it is eff but this really stratches the metal and we did replace some blocks.

This is so easy, though rare, I got to where I could change a block in 2 hours. Next new one you see check out the welds at the spot where the two plates go together in the snail roll, they are amazing and strong.

Can't say enough good things about them. They are constantly getting better and controls upgrade from time to time so they are not the type of company that sits on it's laurels.

    Dynatherm

48 years and still running, ya have to say something about American steel and a smart design. We have about eight that we service annually, most are over 20 years old,one about 40 years. I like steel boilers, they run power plants and the U.S. Navy.
