Infloor and DHW

I have a couple of jobs that have a small infloor heat load and need to heat the DHW. I want to know if there is anything available to do both off the same unit?

Yeah, try an AO Smith ProMaxSL - it has side mounted recirculation taps for space heating.

    Heat ex

I thought about that. What would you you use? I looked at an on demand WH and a heat exchanger. I am not sure how to pipe the system.

    Job is...

I have a basement floor[slab] with in floor heat[8,000btu] and a house with 2 full baths. My heating load is so small I thought I could put both together. I just looked at the Takagi water heater online. It shows a diagram to pipe both together. I am not going to do that but, I could use that diagram and put the heat exchanger in it. Probably any on demand water heater would work, properly sized.

    that pretty small....

instantateous water heaters are good for heating domestic but to get the requied flow for the floor requires a BIG circ...What were you using for a fuel source? You could easily get away with a small point of use electric water heater 4500 watt element and then do a seperate water heater for the domestic... it would probably also be the most cost effective too...getting into HX can be more money....kpc

    gas

Natural gas. Why would it take a bigger pump than required for the infloor[.8gpm].

    the bigger circ....

pump is needed for the tankless (takagi, bosch, rinnai etc) because the high head pressure through it. If you look at the inside of one of those things the water has a long way to travel and a thin tube to go through, a 007 won't give you the flow rate. It also get complex as to how to pipe it all with a HX , and a bronze circ... They are really meant to be water heaters not boilers. You could stll use the Takagi/rinniai for the domestic side. How do they heat the rest of the house now? kpc

    Forced air

I am installing an A.S. AUY060r VS 90+ furnace. I tried to talk them into infloor in the whole house. But, the #'s got a little to high for them. I would put in a 4" vent and a gas water heater for DHW and the infloor but, there is no way to get it out. I might go with my original plan and put in a Munchkin T50M and an indirect fired water heater. It is a bit pricey for such a small job. Oh well!

    Other combo's

AO Smith makes a combo water heater. Triangle Tuble has a great inner stainless steal tank for the domestic but it's pricey also.
