Cost of a recent CO poisoning 12 day ICU hospitalization.
ER Services $346
Imaging $3,411
Respiratory
Therapy (vent) $4,061
ICU Room $21,279
Laboratory $5,714
Other Therapy $1,426
Pharmacy $10,426
IV Supplies $4,246
Other Services $1,599
Total $52,508
This was the cost for ONE person three people were poisoned in this incident (all in adjacent ICU rooms). EMS said house had one ordinary CO detector which didn't alarm. CO levels were around 200ppm.
EMS was called because family all felt nauseated with splitting headaches.
How much does a good low level CO alarm along with proper servicing of heating equipment cost again.

Aha,
but you left out that this was probably covered by insurance.
When the boys on the block (big insurance) have had enough they'll wind up their lobbyists and CO alarms won't be built fast enough.
That's why I've never got involved in the battle for CO detectors and testing up to my eyeballs. I've been through it once before with smoke detectors, it's a big battle and it won't happen until THE POWERS THAT ARE WISH IT TO BE.
It will come to pass when THEY will it to, FACT!
I just keep teaching those that have always been to church and the choir sings so sweetly, hey Pastor Timmie?0 -
cost
No one was insured on this one. Working part time minimum wage job. Even if you have insurance today there is no guarantee you won't be out significant money. Take a look at deductables and copays. Plus have you ever taken care of a child on a ventilator because of something like this and watched the family while you are trying to pull them through. CO kills and incapacitates people. Effective low level CO detectors are needed in every home, period.0 -
Sorry to hear that
and my apologies if necessary.
Being self-employed I'm fully aware of insurance costs and having a wife in her 14th month of a depression I can sympathize with these people.
I'm still waiting for W's health care reform from 4 years ago, but he's a slow starter.
