Pro-Press/ Viega

I am starting into the plumbing and heating biz and slowly building an inventory of the vital tools. I hope to be a one man show as much as possible. After being in biz in another field with all the employee and overhead stress for 20 years, I need a change. My problem is the time it takes to cut, clean, and sweat, along with planning my next"pipe fitting move" and a simple Boiler replacement becomes quite a job. Does anyone have any experience with press fittings, or rather, has anyone heard any horror stories? I have seen a few jobs, and they look great but do the connections fail. I know I can't do everything myself, but if the Pro-Press thing is as reliable as they claim it shore could make my life easier.

    Pro Press

I've only been using the tool for 3-4 months and I think it's great. I can't really comment on fitting problems because I have not had any in this short amount of time. It did save my bacon a few weeks back in a residential situation. The main service gate valve before the water meter broke in the closed position. The town could not move the curb stop in the street to shut off the flow. I screwed a 3/4 male x propress fitting into a ips ballvalve and connected a garden hose to the other end and put it out the cellar window. Cut the line (got a little wet) slid the pro press fitting on while water went outside and pressed it on. Thanks Rigid. EJW

    we have three

pro presses and love them. we just completed a new school addition with about 4000' of pipe from 4" to 1/2". no leaks at all with the pro press. the only leaks we have ever had is from not setting the pipe into the fitting the full way. it is definately a time saver. we have been using it for about 3 years. the only problem is trying to find engineers to allow you to use it on commerical projects.
