Thanks to everyone for the help. I've added some vents to this system, got rid of the vacuum check and vacuum vents. It worked much, much better. I've still got one or two traps to replace and a vaporastat to install. The customer sez there are still "issues", which I'd expect with a bad trap and the wrong control. Thought I'd send a schematic of the near-boiler piping and see what you guys think.
