I do presume that last January was a LOT colder in your area...

Well, There was a Weil-Mc circa late 70's with a B&G series 100 pump running through convectors, oh and the system was oversized by 75K BTU's. No insulation in the crawlspace,or walls. the windows were replaced with Low-E and in padding out the walls I could install 2x8 batts of fiberglass. To quote Gerry Garcia
"I need a miracle every day". Yes I think it was a bit colder than last year but not much.

Very nice install in your home. What brand is the radiant tubing and manifolds?

    PATRIOT HEATING & COOLING, INC.

    I like...

Very nice Steve. That is an excellent looking system. I like the tight plumbing to the LLH and the indirect. Not flashy but extremely functional and efficient. What is the floor finish? I was also curious as to what was coiled up on the walls down on the right hand side?

Nice reference to the Greatful Dead, you never know what you will see on the Wall.
Nice job on the boiler as well.

  • They are nice, aren't they?

What do you have strapped to the boiler return side of the LLH?

I've used the tube tracks before but never on a plywood sub-floor. Why not use staples? You like doing it that way?

The coils are the power cords to the mixing valve actuator and the power unit, I didn't feel like cutting off and putting on new plugs. Lazy I guess? The floor covering is Spanish teracotta, talk about labor intensive!!! First you seal it then you grout then 2 coats of paste wax, buff it between coats then liquid wax and then you scratch you head and ask yourself why you picked it. But it looks purdy at the end of the day.

    Hi Gary,
Are you talking about the LWCO? The perspetive might be playing tricks. I do not own a stapler and got a great deal on the track.

    Sounds Similar...

Insulation, weatherization, TRVs, reset and constant circulation cut consumption about 40% and Vitodens took off another 45% (conservatively). It just took about 10 years to get it close to done...

Is that Saltillo tile? Sure looks nice but have heard it's an absolute pain to lay, grout and seal. Yours looks nice and even--whoever laid it did a wonderful job! The few installations I've seen around here are very uneven as the layer didn't compensate for the differing tile thickness.

Yes it is Saltillo tile and the craftsman that layed it down is from El Salvidor and was well versed with the material.

Did you have any issues integrating the Heatlink and Viessman controls?

I really like the Heatlink product lineup.

    Heatlink integrating

    Hi Jason,
There is no problem there because the Vitodens does not see anything out side the MER other than the outside air sensor. The Heatlink thermostats call when they are below setpoint and the same with the high temp. baseboard pulling in the circ's . The only thing that the Vitoden will do is disable the radaint circ and the baseboard and towel warmer circ's when the Vitocell drops below setpoint. The Vitodens just actuates the 3-way valve when the radiant needs some more temperature based on it's reset curve and supply sensor (radiant supply).

Make any sense? Regards Steve K.
