Burner setup

I have a relatively new direct-vent gas forced-air furnace, and I know when it was installed the combustion was not checked out.

I need to know what to ask a residential service company to determine if they really know how to set up the burner or if they're going to learn on my time and dime.

Just ask if they have a combustion analyzer and know how to use it? What phrase can I use to find the right guy?

    not much

If you have a newer 90 plus nat. gas furnace there is really nothing to adjust. The tech should test manifold gas pressure and heat rise. A combustion test is a good idea as it will pick up the bad heat exchanger. The key to the new furnace is the gas pressure check and the temperature rise measurement. The burners should be cleaned and inspected but there is no air adjustment with the modern inshot burner. A tech may also check ignitor ohms if it's a glow bar type ign and microamops but if it's bad it won't light anyway. If borderline it's a good idea to sell you a new one although some customers ask why if it's working fine.

get the name of the boiler and size and how many zones,

and a list of other gas appliances in your home....call the gas company and run all thisinfo down to them, suggest that you would like some one who has experience with checking the innitial start up of the equipment and will leave a service card describing the co ,stack and smoke...if you ask this much and get it, your good.

    Yep.

I pretty much expected this would be true. Thanks for your prompt response.
