Leaking weil Mclain 468

Friday night I had a customer with a P-468WT call with water all over the basement floor. The boiler had a cracked section (2nd from the front) and the water would run out of it during a heating cycle. The boiler is only 10 years old. My supplier did not have a 468 block in stock and really didn't want me to replace it with a complete Gold series because the warranty issue. What do you guys/girls do when this happens? I've had warranty issues with W/M before (maybe it's the supplier!). Thanks for your input.~Randy

    Steam or water 468?

They're very good about warranty issues.

the customer first has to understand they are responsible for paying you to fix this problem you did not cause. last time i checked weil mclain can insist on examining the defective section and then they determine what they are responsible for under the terms of the warranty at the time the boiler was installed. generally they are more resonable than that. tell the customer you recomend a new packaged boiler as their boiler is now 10 years old and is entering a point in the boiler life where they can expect more maintenace costs on all the systems on the boiler if they only change the bad section. it is an opportunity to get a new boiler and have some of the cost defrayed by whatever the manufacturer supplies for relief on the guarantee going towards the cost. people usually see the wisdom in this approach and are happy you recomended it to them a few years afterwards.

Since the 68 is no longer in production, talk to your local Weil rep about it. We had a cusotmer lose a 68 last year and we got a complete WTGO package as a replacement. It was pro-rated as it was 15 years old, but they stood behind it.
