Radiant & Steam

I've done a lot to improve and balance the heat in my house. We still have an open area on the lst floor that is cool. I have two questions:

1. Should we add insulation to the cellar ceiling? This looks like a tough job but I found some thin 1/4" foil that might work.
2. What about radiant floor heat in addition to the two radiators in this area -- does that make sense?

Thanks for your help.

Do those two radiators heat thoroughly?

If they're original they should heat the room. Unless of course renovations have been made or radiators were removed.

    Yes, they do.

The radiators are ok. The problem is we altered the room by removing the wall between two rooms and opening up the room a lot. We have new windows, new door and a cover for the downdraft oven vent but it is still cold in that area.
Below is a field stone foundation cellar, which is getting new windows and a new exterior door this month.

    there is 1/2 ...

your problem. You have to seal up the air rushing through the basement. Either by mortar or spray foam insulation. kpc

You probably need a heat loss calc...

to determine the amount of radiation needed for the room. They're based on room dimensions, size and number of windows/doors, insulation, wind conditions, etc.

If your boiler has the capacity you may be able to add radiator(s).

Insulating is certainly a good place to start, though.

    The thing is,

I don't want more radiators. I was hoping that installing radiant floor heat would warm up the room without adding bulk.
