HYDROAIR SYSTEM PROBLEM

I RECENTLY RAN INTO A PROBLEM, ON A HYDRO AIR SYSTEM, THAT HAS ME ABIT STUMPED. THE INSTALLING CONTRACTOR IS USING 2 AHUS WITH HOTWATER COILS TO HEAT A 2 STORY HOME ( LESS THAN 3200 SF ) THE FIRST PROBLEM WAS THE CONTRACTOR DID NOT DO A HEATLOSS / GAIN. THE FIRST FLOOR COIL WAS UNDERSIZED BY 40%. I GOT HIM THE PROPER COIL AND CONVINCED HIM TO INCREASE THE PIPE SIZE TO THE COIL TO 1". ( COIL SIZE IS 68,000 BTHU AT 180 DEGREES AND 1600 CFM.AFTER THESE CHANGES THERE WAS ALMOST NO DIFFERENCE IN PERFORMANCE. THE BOILER IS A 5 SECTION DUNKIRK. SUPPLY TEMP TO THE COILS IS 187 AND RETURN IS 178. THE HEAT IS NOT BEING STRIPPED OFF. I TRIED SLOWING THE FLOW NO REAL DIFERENCE. CURRENTLY THE PLENIUM TEMP IS 118 WITH DELIVERY TEMP AROUND 108 AND DOES NOT HEAT THE FIRST FLOOR. THE SECOND FLOOR UNIT HAS A SIMILAR PROBLEM BUT IS NOT NOTICABLE BECAUSE THE HEAT IS RISING FROM 1ST FLOOR. THE FIRST FLOOR AIR HANDLER IS 3.5 TON ( 1400 CFM ). THEY DID NOT PRIMARY AND SECONDARY PUMP BUT DID PUMP AWAY. THE BOILER CYCLE IS REALLY SHORT...MAYBE 3 MIN RUN TIMES.

ANY IDEAS?
THANKS
STEVEN

Did you check the air filters? Whats the airflow like? Also check to see if coil(s) are clogged, I see alot of dirty coils in newer homes.Good luck.

That should be plenty of heat sounds like you've got major air flow problems, clogged filters ,coil, blower wheel etc. or really bad ductwork. look for lack of return air (number 1 sin).

New construction? Plenty of dust? Clogged air filter? Very common. You should make sure.

    To increase capacity

with hydroair you increase air flow and/or gpm. Is the circ pumping enough flow??Seems to me if you had more flow you would have a larger delta tee. WW

    FOUND IT!

I MADE A SITE VISIT YESTERDAY AND IT STUCK OUT LIKE A SORE THUMB. PREVIOUSLY I TOLD HIM TO RUN 1" supply and return to the coil. HE HAD 3/4 WHICH IS ONLY 4GPM WAY SHORT OF COIL CAPACITY. HE CHANGED THE SUPPLY TO 1 AND LEFT THE RETURN AT 3/4. HE STILL DOSEN'T WANT TO CHANGE IT BECAUSE HE HAS TO DUMP THE SYSTEM. DAN HOLOHAN HIMSELF HAS A SAYING " IF YOU CAN'T FIND THE TIME TO DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.... YOU WILL NEVER FIND THE TIME TO DO IT A SECOND TIME.

THANKS A BUNCH GUYS..I DID CHECK EVERYTHING YOU OFFERED AS WELL.
