venting question

was on a job today customer wants to move a bryant 90 plus gas furnace according to manufacturers info in order to move the furnace the minimum vent size with 6 elbows is 2 1/2 in. pvc customer says well the original installers used 1 1/2in. pvc so it should not be a problem i say it should be at a minimum 3 in. pvc so i am seeking advice

    Go by the book. If they specify a minimum of 2 1/2 so be it. That's the minimum. The gas supplier will probably red tag it if you go smaller anyway. So save the headache. Wouldn't think one inch would make that big of a difference anyway...Good luck..

    Is it really 1 1/2" pipe now ? most are 2" minimum. 2 1/2" pipe and fitttings aren't all that common but if thats what the chart calls for it should be at least 2 1/2 3" wouldn't hurt any. Actually have repiped several bryants and carriers due to people pushing the envelope with 2" pipe. Give them 2 prices one to do it right the first time and another to do it twice :)
