Tom your idea about dropping the return into the basement, is good, you would have to drop it in to a wet return how ever- if you there are no wet returns you would have to install a loop seal on the return side of the baseboard, and having it tie in to the supply. the length of the loop seal will be determined by the pressure your useing 30" 4 every PSI there usually 5'
and on your 2nd ? i think you ment vent..so, you will always need a vent

Steam baseboard/ condensate problems
Hello my new best friend,
I am a N.J. licensed plumber and I currently work with a manufacturers rep agency in N.J.
One of our distributors called a couple of days ago re. one of their contractors that was having trouble with a new installation of 11/4" steel baseboard on a steam job.
previously there were radiators at these 2 locations. His problem is with the radiation filling with condensate and then spewing all over the floor.
I visited the site and checked for some obvious things like pitch of the riser as well as the 8' piece of base-board. All was well. I suggested dropping a return off the end of the baseboard. One of 2 locations is on the first floor and he could easily drop a return back into the basement. We do however have another location on the second floor with the same problem.
Seperate question, how long of a steam base board can one run without an event. I have a contractor that wants to run 70'.
I anxiously await your response.

Mr. Great (or may I call you jesse?)
Thanks for your response and affirmation. I did receive some print explaination of your recommendation from the tech team @ Slant/Fin.(thanks Noel) They and the explaination they forwarded concur. My second question however was not VENT but rather event like in water spewing everywhere. The paper work I received from Slant/Fin pretty much explained the principals and rules.
Thanks again for your response.
