Hydro coil

in the return duct of my furnace that was previously connected to my domestic hot water heater. It is now connected to my new boiler but is not delivering the heat I expected. Is it possible it has scaled up over the years? How can I find what the capacity should be? My Watts Flowgaurd says I am only moving 6 GPM with my UP 24-65 Grundfos. That doesnt seem like much for that circulator.

It worked fine before?
with the DHW power source? What is the delta t across the coil? Do you have a spec sheet for the coil. Plenty of output info on line if you have the dimensions and number of passes in the coil. You may need to boost the blower speed to overcome the additional ststic across the coil?
What size is it ( WxL) and how many BTU/hr are you trying to squeeze out.

Check to coils
also. Maybe spray clean or air blast them.

It's 12 by 24 on the face
without the flanges. 2 rows of tubes. Just talked to a coil company and they have the same size and it gives 56,000 at 140 degrees. That's just what I need. It was on a Polaris before and the furnace was on a back up time delay. If the hydro coil didn't satisfy the tstat in 10 minutes the gas furnace would kick on and finish up what was lacking. Just switched over to a Munchkin so am curious as to the lack of capacity. I can get higher temps now, but not enough to satisfy t/stat when it's really cold out. I'm thinking it might be scaled up. This area is famous for it's limestone in the water from the mighty Potomac River, which makes it way out of the underground rivers of West VA. You should see our humidifier pads. Crusty. WW

Easy enough
to run vinegar or a mild coil cleaner through it. What do you have to lose? Doesn't take much of a build up layer to drive down the HX efficiency, especially 8if you were close to begin with?
But where, if your system is, and has been, sealed, did the build up come from. Hard to believe the initial fill could have scaled it enough to decrease output that much.
If you have the specs on the coil, then you should be able to calculate the output based on the gpm info you have and the temperature drop across the coil.
The Mcquay website has a lot of good sizing data for air coils. Math gets big, pretty fast, if you attempt it by hand.

I have no specs on the coil
it was a freebie I took from a job I was demo-ing years ago. It was on an open system for years as the Polaris was my domestic hot water source and my heat. After I changed to the closed system, I started with a 12 degree delta tee at 5 GPM. I do the math and get 30000 btuh. I then changed the circ up from a 15-58 to a 24-64. The delta went up to 15 and the GPM only up to 6. That gets me up to 45,000 btuh. Coil is very clean. Took it out and cleaned with coil cleaner and garden hose. I may run some scale remover through it next weekend.

For sure
if it was an open system coil it is worth a delime procedure. You mentioned Polaris earler, but I didn't know you meant open system
