Dunham

Anyone have any info on a Dunham System (Chicago) aside from the "Victory" line in the library here at heating help. My Lost Art is not here with me and I could only find one article in the library here. All the rads have what seem to be graduating valves a'la a Richardson system. All rads are underneath ELABORATE hand carved walnut cabinetry which are probably worth more than my house and property. All of the supply valves to the rads have extensions which extend to the Walnut cabinets where there are flush brass inlays where a "key" for lack of a better word, flips up out of the cabinet so that the valve can be adjusted. Anyone know what I'm looking at??? I will be returning with a camera in hand on the next trip. Any help/info will be appreciated. Is this system in Lost Art???? I wont be able to have one of my copies until Wednesday. ( I knew I should have bought one for my wifes car). System in a mansion of a phamaceutical company owner with a blown boler. Current boiler is a w/m 78 series installed in '96. Seems a bit young to have blown. There is a M/M 101 feeder feeding into the vent of the condensate receiver. On top of the receiver is an upside down compression tank piped to it from one of the 2" tappings on the receiver top. Any ideas on what that could be about?? Seems like a holding tank of some sort. Thanks in advance. It was not stuff I see every day.

Sounds like the usual Dunham Vapor system

yes, that Weil should have lasted a lot longer. What about that "condensate receiver"? Is this the usual condensate or boiler-feed tank/pump unit? If so, it was probably put in when a Return Trap failed- installer must not have known all you need in that case is a Vaporstat.

The radiator setup was common in the old days- I've seen that too, in high-end installations. Probably has the usual Dunham trap on the return.

In Lost Art, chapter 15, the system illustrated in the section "The Boiler Return Trap (and the Alternating Receiver)" is a Dunham.
