Insulating Radiator Covers

I have been reading that radiator covers are a great low cost way of directing heat into the room and not out the window. In addition to that I have read about foil backed insulation. What I want to know is is there a particular rate of insulation to use for this? Also, can you use a staple gun to fasten the insulation to the wall or is there another application that is better to use?

Thank you for all your help.

    What about Convector Cabinet Housings?

Just to add to your topic:

I have convectors with the inside being black, would the thin foil insulation you see at HD cut and paste to the inside help with radiating more heat outwards instead of being absorbed into the black metal housing that is housed in the wall?

    Some one here

will have the link ( I lost mine ) But depending on the way the cover is designed 9 and most are done wrong ) the output of the cover is actually reduced.

Most covers restrict the air flow over the rad's and reduce the output. Design it poperly and the air flow is increased and the output raised.

By the way, radiators under a window help mix the infiltration of cold air from a window and reduce the effect of feeling cold standing next to a window.
