Need contractor to remove boiler with asbestos

Steve Garson

I need to remove my old boiler with sheet metal skin but 2-inches of corrugated asbestos between the cast iron and the sheet metal. I have heard that there are companies that will do this, since it will not require sealing off my entire basement. Take it a way and then remove the asbestos. The boiler will fit through the doors without disassembly.

Can anyone refer someone in the Boston area?

    asbestos abatement

Don't mean to be flippant here, Steve, but I recall the case where a P&H guy recommended an asbestos abatement contractor who screwed up and got sued, and so did the P&H guy for his involvement. It's a sad day when the lawyers attack anyone remotely connected to a case like this. We have been instructed by our legal and insurance people to never recommend in cases like this. We simply say: "Due to the potential liability exposure, we cannot recommend an abatement contractor." Then, it's up to the homeowner to seek out a qualified contractor to do the work. Sorry about that, but that's the reality of the situation.
