I am trying to find information on one of the first indoor heaters inventor, Elnathan Cole who was born 1881 in PA, He lived for the most part in California. I was told he made a lot of money when he sold the idea he had invented. Is there anyone out there who has access to the original inventors of these heaters? Or where the old Patents can be found? He was a Great Grandfather and I am trying to get information on his invention. Later in census's I noticed him in both 1910 plumming and 1920 water heater business. That is why I am assuming it was of the Radiator type steam water heaters.

    early heaters

...while you're looking things up on the U.S. patent site, check out Amanda Theodosia Jones, a Pensylvania woman who came up with a practical oil burner in 1881.

    WooHoo! Thanks One more Question???

Is that the first indoor gas heater? My Granny used to brag that he invented the first heater. Must be gas since the Radiator types were even earlier than that. I always thought it was of the Radiator type since he was a Plummer and later a water heater Salesman, 1910 Census Plummer, 1920 Census Water Heater Salesman. Maybe by then he was part owner of the Water heater Co. so that is why he did sales. Thanks for your help, as this was all a story in our family before these documents.
Someone said he invented a sort of Traffic light too. Would they have that patent at that address also if he did? Thanks again this is a GREAT WALL!!!! Mary Tyler

    well,

i couldn't tell you if it was the first or not..i rather dought it was the first..more likely an innovation that was first and therefore patentable..didn't find anything else on him..checked from 1900-1930..
