chimney lining (massachusetts)

I seem to recall having seen somewhere that there was a law in Massachusetts that, since the mid-90s, newly installed gas <boilers? furnaces?> required the installer to make sure that the chimney was lined (with what, I don't know).
Does this ring any bells? Since the gas boiler in my home says "installed by NStar February 10, 2003" on the cover (before I moved in), would I be able to assume that I have a metal chimney flue liner? Is that just wishful thinking on my part?
Thanks,
-Michael

what city?
What city is it in? Most inspectors make you line the chimney. That is if it was done with a permit.

Chimney Liners
If you drive through the City of Fitchburg with all the hills you can see the roof tops of the triple deckers. The ones that have been converted all have the metal liners sticking slightly above the top of the brick chimney and usually have a metal cap. This may help you to see if yours is like that.

Cambridge
Cambridge. I assumed since NStar is a big company and probably subbed out the work that it would have been permitted. . . but who knows. I guess I could call the city and see if a permit was ever issued.
