Massachusetts chimney lining

I seem to recall having seen somewhere that there was a law in Massachusetts that, since the mid-90s, newly installed gas <boilers? furnaces?> required the installer to make sure that the chimney was lined (with what, I don't know).
Does this ring any bells? Since the gas boiler in my home says "installed by NStar February 10, 2003" (before I moved in), would I be able to assume that I have a metal chimney flue liner? Is that just wishful thinking on my part?
Thanks,
-Michael
