anyone know why hydro-air units require so much room for expansion? thanks, paul sr.

Hydro air does not need any more expansion consideration than any other.
You are refering to expansion tank volume right? If your talking about physical metal movement, that is simply because many hydro-air HX's run a typical dT of 40°.
