I have been offered to purchase a Weil-McLain boiler with condensate tank and pump. It is dated 1987 has been used in a home with 12 radiators, and is rated 150,000 btu. Price is $350.00 delivered into my basement. Is this a good price? Thanks.

You couln't pay me ....
to put in a used steam boiler.
What happens when you install it and in three months the thing starts leaking, burns down your house, needs a new control, tank leaks, pump breaks or just plain old dies.
Get a new one. If money is an issue I am sure you can find a company to finance the insall or a home equity loan can help.
Good luck,

A fellow I worked with picked up a used H. B. Smith and got it for free because the fellow hated oil and was going total wood. (what do you do when you get the flue?-freeze-or have the wife haul the wood)
He installed it ran it for years and sold the house with it still running. Take your pick0 -
never used
never invest in a used boiler, like stated before, there are many manufacturers there who will finance and work with you. Also there are many in a lesser price bracket, they might not be the most well known, but if money is a issue, they all work.0 -
ya know
if you are able to put it in yourself, you might take the chance, but if you are paying to have it installed, I wouldn't take the chance. A 13 yr old boiler? who knows. Might last another 40 yrs, might leak from the minute you put it in and then what? Pay to have it done all over again?0 -
Casinojunkie..
First off, what I'd like to know is, why does a tiny boiler (150,000 btu) need a condensate tank? Second is, why on earth would you buy an 18 year old used boiler? (Maybe a 150 HP one) Third is, the code does not allow used equipment to be used (in this application). Save your money for the craps table Casinojunkie, you could spend alittle more than double that and get a new one with a better rating. Do you even know what YOUR load is?? Walk away QUICK!
