Main Steam Vents

I have 2 main vents on my one pipe system and I would like to replace them as I believe they are not working. They are 3/4" Dole (I believe) No. JC. The local supply house told me any vent will do and suggested a Vent-Rite #35 (because that is what they had). I am uncertain they are correct. What brand and number vent should I be using? Does it make a difference if one of the main vents is near the boiler and the other near the last radiator on the main?

You need to measure
the length and diameter of each steam main. With this info we can tell you what's needed.
If there is old insulation on your mains, don't disturb it. Measure its outside diameter and subtract 2-1/4 inches to get the pipe size (Most old insulation was 1 inch thick and pipe walls are 1/8" thick in this size range).

The size of the main where the existing vents are located is 2".0 -
Need the length
of each main. I assume there are two mains serving different parts of the house- once we have their lengths, we can tell you what you need.

One main is 53' long and starts out at 2" but reduces to 1/1/2" where one of the vents is located. The other is 2" as well, about 55' long and reduces to 1" where the condensate returns to the boiler.0 -
Use
one Gorton #2 on each main.
