    In the UK...

Wilo Salmson Smartens Up Pump Installation

    Press Release: April 2003

Wilo Salmson is launching a new automatic domestic circulator called Wilo-Smart, which can be used in virtually all domestic heating systems and, unlike many competing domestic circulators, is extremely easy to install. Featuring many of the benefits associated with an electronic circulator the Wilo-Smart pump is suitable for both new and replacement applications.

The new Wilo circulator incorporates a patented automatic dejamming system, which enables it to free dirt and minor debris, thereby improving operating reliability and minimising the need for installers to attend calls for jammed pumps.

Wilo-Smart is a UK standard size pump – 130mm port to port which incorporates flats near the inlet and outlet ports allowing the unit to be held firm with a spanner while the unions are tightened. With quick fit connectors for easy wiring of live, neutral and earth connections, the new circulator is also designed to be simple to set up an easy to understand switch on the terminal box.

With a wide performance range, the Wilo circulator is capable of operating at a high flow rate of 2.75m/h, at a maximum head of 6 metres. Offering flexible and reliable operation, the new Wilo-Smart circulator also provides energy savings as it is designed to adjust performance automatically to meet the varying system demands caused by TRV’s and winter/summer requirements.

Mark Sowden, Marketing Manager at Wilo Salmson explains, “Our new Wilo-Smart circulator really is easy to install, being designed so that it’s as simple as ABC! The pump has also been designed to simplify the process of specification as it can be used in virtually any domestic heating system. The new Wilo-Smart domestic circulator is the ideal choice for any domestic heating application.”

Oh, please, let it be true!

It would be nice to see someone like Wilo open the US market up to constant pressure pumps that are easy to set up. Their Stratos line is amazing in terms of all the different ways that it can be integrated into building systems, how it can be programmed wirelessly, etc.

The Smart line is more for us mere mortals that lack schools and other large areas to heat. Maybe not quite as energy-efficient as the Stratos line, but sized to cover most homes just fine. Also easy to program... Could be a real winner, IMHO!

    Who is their US distributor?

    can't wait

I talked with the Wilo folks many months ago. They were interested but had no schedule at that time. This is really exciting. They have a pump called the stratos that is the nicest pump I have ever seen. Uses an ECM motor on the pump, so it's the most efficienct unit out there. It comes with delta P and T sensors and can do all sorts of things.

They also have pumps similar to the grundfos alpha with delta P sensors built in. If they bring these in at around the sam eprice point as the grundfos alpha in the UK, it will be a really exciting change.

    waiting and hoping,

    Me too!

This could be pretty revolutionary in terms of reducing the number of pumps to feed our system and improving energy efficiency. The only thing I worry about is that the Stratos series seems to be reserved to pumps that have very high capacities... the kind of stuff where one of them would be able to run my entire house...

looks like stratos the pumps can go low enough

I looked at the pump curves, and the smaller units can run as low as 2m (6.5ft) head and from the curves show it running down to dead head.

You just need to take out a second mortage to do it in a pump per zone design.
