Steam Radiator Vents

All other things being equal and identical (I.E. the quality of the steam, the actual venting capacity of the vent, etc.) WHICH BRAND of radiator vent is, in your opinion, the QUIETEST??

Thanks

    We like

Gorton's. If the main(s) are properly vented, very little "hissing" will be heard from the radiator vents.

Make sure the system never goes above 2 # of pressure.

Yes, the mains are properly vented and the pressure is low - my question is WITH ALL OF THESE FACTORS BEING EQUAL in every instance, are there particular radiator vents that are more quiet than others? OR, to put it another way, are there any particular brand names that are notoriously noisy? If you compare Hoffman, Dole, Gorton, etc. are there any that have a reputation of being more silent? Just a simple opionion question to settle an issue - not looking for technical assistance with any specific problem.

    Of those three brands

and all other things being equal, Gorton is the quietest.

    Which is louder?

If I drill a 1/8" hole in the end of a capped pipe & you drill a hole in the end of another capped pipe. Who's pipe will be louder when the same air pressure is applied to each pipe?

1/8 is 1/8, and a pound of feathers weighs the same as a pound of lead.

Look for durability. Orifice size should determine the venting rate and therefore the corresponding noise.
