Have a question in regards to breeching coming off a small oil boiler? The boiler runs fine on oil everything appears correct. But one cold days the boiler will have to be reset, after an 7 to 8 hour cycle. The only problem possble, we think. Is the stack is 8" going into Chim., which is roughly 4' x 4' with height of 36'.

how often does this happen, when does it happen what time of day or nite, whens the last time the burner was tuned up,did they use instruments to do the tuneup?

Tune up boiler again this year/replace ignitor's,changes filters, checked and re-checked all control's. This situation occurs when OA temp is around 25 or below. Boiler will run appx. 7 to 9 hours and then will not ignite again unless reset. You can check to find a problem/ then reset it again. It will run for another length of time and then have to reset again.

ok what time of day or nite does it lock out did they do an effiency test at last tuneup if it locksout at nite i believe you are looking at a cold air issue in the basement and need a simple air adjustment

    Is this boiler running steady...

for that period of time? Or a longer off period after that time's cycles? Maybe a very different draft created after running, given this mismatch of boiler size to chimney size?

    chimney

Line chimney - what can happen on cold days, the chimny will fill with cold air & the boiler may not be able to draft properly. Had this happen in Yellowknife NWT. Mind you, OA temps were in the -20/30/40. We had to fill the base of the chimney with sand to just below the vent thimble & install a liner & seal the top, to keep the masonry chimney warm.
