Unknown Noise From Boiler Room

Hi All,

Recently I've noticed a new noise coming from my boiler room when my 15 year-old SlantFin gas boiler starts up. The noise is a high pitched buzzing, is present during most of the heating cycle, and is loudest during the overnight runs (3:00-5:00AM). During the rest of the day I don't hear the buzzing.

Oddly enough, the noise seems to be coming from inside the exterior wall of the boiler room and not from the boiler itself.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tom

    Buzzing

Sounds like a wall relay or transformer on it way out. Sometimes you can get lucky and find a loose cover or maybe it's pipe vibration you can cushing. You need to find the source.

It's normal to hear it at early AM. The heat is the only thing running at that hour.....

Do you have natural gas or LP by chance? Next time the noise starts go and listen to the regulator (next to the gas meter or gas service line) and see if it starts there.

    Garlic

consider placing a paper bag containing garlic above the doorway--should keep the spirts at bay.

    Dont forget to

keep the horse shoe facing up. Is it possible you have a bank of telestats in that wall with LED boards powered by transformer.

    Maybe a switching relay...

for a zone that only calls for heat around that time? Are there different zones with setback thermostats that could create this scenerio?
