Question: when #2 fuel starts to gel will this change o2 and co2 characteristics? It's 20 below this morning and I have my fuel tank outside with straight fuel. I always add 8 oz of sid harvey fuel treatment before every fill up. Flame looks dirty this morning. I found furnace tripped when I woke up. Yesterday furnace was burning clean 4.5 % o2

    Yes

It would cause a smoky fire. The droplets are bigger. it cannot be atomized as well.

Not many people want to listen, but I always recommend Kerosene in COLD weather for out side tank.

    You could

drop the nozzle size and increase pump pressure, or try a nozzle line oil heater. Both Beckett and Carlin have part numbers.

You could leave a loop of extra oil line in the basement maybe the oil could warm up a little before it gets to the burner. Build a shelter around your tank?

    on top of that

Buy a 5 gallon bucket of k1. Even though it's better to at least have a 50/50 mix it will help a little.....good luck!

or try a Garber filter and tigerloop

mounted on or near the boiler. This should warm things up. Also, if you have a two pipe system, the tigerloop will convert it to one pipe so that the line will only have to feed the flow rate used and not the full pump capacity. This will also help to prevent condensation in the cold tank by not returning slightly warmer oil.

We use HOT 4 in 1 oil treatment on all outside tank deliveries with great results. Hope this helps.

My personal opinion for outside tanks is 100% Kero!
