I'm looking to hear if anyone feels strongly about a boiler control that offers user interaction remotely via internet. Any success stories out there in the residential market?

I know it doesn't mean much...

... but the Viessmann stand at ISH was showing off their KM Bus system, or whatever, that allows a small server to interact with the Vitotronic system. The house that they were monitoring was in Canada, showing all circuits, boiler operation, etc. You could even change the temperature, etc. IIRC, it required a Vitotronic 300 control, an-add on brain, and lots of dough.

Some people have had very good success with the X10 system of distributed controls, thermostats, thermistors, etc. This is likely to be a much less costly solution than the Viessmann system. However, many people find X10 fiddly to set up, so the alleged plug-and-play features of the Viessmann system do have that appeal.

    Whole house system

I appreciate your response. I know there are some whole house monitoring systems out there.(lighting, heating, security) and I have done some work on proprietary commercial systems. (lots of $) I am also aware of a remote monitor system for Grudfos SQE pumps.
Just wondering if anyone has any other thoughts about this?

    remote controls

I am presently using a sensaphone remote. The only remote feature is to allow me to turn my heat up or down to preset numbers. An example being 55 away degrees and 72 at degrees. Allows me to turn my heat on before I arrive. But it will also monitor a number of systems and give you a call if there is a problem. Examples are: smoke detectors, low temperature, water leaks, intrusion alarm and a number of others. Tekmar also has an occupied and unoccupied feature with preset temperatures that work well.

    Honeywell enviracom?

Thank you for the feedback. I've been looking at options.
Has anyone tried using an enviracom, say with a 363 tekmar as the primary reset. The enviracom has an interface to monitor zones and allows user setbacks. All the 363 inst/adv settings shouldn't ever be exposed to the client anyway. My only concern is using forced air stat technology for radiant floor, however the control does use outdoor sensors and claims to operate within 1 degree. Any thoughts on how this might work?

I may try the enviracom and see how it works. Currently discussing this with a home automation company. I'll keep you up on what I find. Thanks

    iRadiant Controls with Internet access

We've done hundreds of projects with the iRadiant controls. Simple data server hook up gives you web browser capability to view, graph even configure the entire system over the internet. Service calls can be sent to you via email or any web enabled device. You know what's wrong before you get there!

You can do TCP/IP, dial up, or Lan. Cost, frankly not much more than you'd pay for stand alone controls. Take a look at the web site www.caleffi.us. Western Nevada Supply has done quite a few jobs with this. If you're interested, I'll give you the password so that you can look at a working site.

    Sincerely,

    Roger Michaud
